Her courage no lesser

Facing her sentence with pride

A lifetime of captivity

A better day than yesterday

Aged her beyond her years

Broken bones slowing her pace

But she wouldn't give in

She fought to defy the odds

Her strength came from within

There were days she just couldn't cope

And she hid it behind a smile

Cringing in pain she would walk

Trying to steady herself alone

At times her belief so strong

Helped her rise above her circumstances

She asked only for compassion

She knew she was on borrowed time
